Meteorology on the Web #1
Over the last few weeks, I did a series called Weather on the Web, and in the last installment I said I had pretty well exhausted that subject. So some of you might be wondering why I’m starting a new series on Meteorology on the Web. Well, weather and meteorology are not the same. Weather is what happens in the atmosphere. Meteorology is the study of weather.
I’m offering this series for those that want to know more about how weather works.
One of the best ways to start learning meteorology is to take the Introduction to Meteorology course offered by Tulsa Community College, but I know not everyone is interested in or capable of doing so. You could go to the TCC bookstore to buy the textbook, but not everyone can afford that. You could also try to find a meteorology text at a library, but you could wind up with an outdated book. Instead of all that, you could download A SHORT COURSE IN BASIC METEOROLOGY, a PDF file available here:
ftp://seismo.nrcan.gc.ca/exports/Meteorology/Basic_Meteorology.pdf
This text covers most of the essentials that I remember from when I took the TCC course, and it handles severe weather basics better.
Camp Bandage TRO Public Relations Event
Camp Bandage is a one day event where medical professionals and others teach children first aid, health, and safety. Time and location: 18 MAY 13, 1000 to 1500, Immanuel Lutheran Church, 400 N Aspen Ave, Broken Arrow, OK
TRO members are invited to come out and help the club inform people about ham radio’s role in public safety during severe weather, emergencies and disasters.
