Becoming A Better Communicator -
Revisited
Last week, I posted about an idea I had about something that could help hams
become better comnunicators, and that I would present that idea at the TRO
meeting last Tuesday night. I call this idea "ham radio testimonies," that
is, stories about how someone becomes a ham. I challenged everyone to write
down their own testimonies as a exercise to become better communicators.
Before the meeting, I blogged about this before the meeting. The blog post
included links to a file-sharing website where anyone can download my ham
radio testimony, and an easy guide to the writing process. Here are the
links to the blog post and the files:
A New
Tradition?
Us
hams are peculiar creatures. On the one hand, we are innovators, often
having a hand in the development and implementaition of new technology. On
the other hand, we have our traditions. Sometimes, it seems like those
traditions include some things that are distasteful.
One
unfortuante incident within the last year or so could have been prevented
with an application of courtesy. While reflecting on this event, I
remembered that courtesy is the first item in the Radio Amateur's Code.
In
light of this, I would like to propose a new tradition. In addition to the
usual introductions to start our club meetings, have someone read the Radio
Amateur's Code, and maybe lead the members in reciting it. Maybe this will
help prevent future misunderstandings and problems.
If
you want a copy of the code, here's a link:
