Change to ARES/RACES
Net - Important
Update!
The Tulsa Area
ARES/RACES Net is
now the
ARES-Oklahoma Tulsa
Metro Zone 5 weekly
Thursday night
net.
The time is still
2000 hrs. (8 PM),
but the frequency
has changed. It is
now on the Tulsa
Amateur Radio Club's
W5IAS UHF Superlink
System. The hub of
the system is
443.850. Other
repeaters on the
system located
inside or near Zone
5 are the 442.000
Mannford, the
444.600 Mounds, and
the 443.100 Muskogee
repeaters. All of
these repeaters have
a standard positive
offset of 5 MHz, and
a PL of 88.5.
You can find other
repeaters on the
system at
www.w5ias.com
or
www.oklahomarepeatersociety.org.
The 146.880 (with a
standard negative
offset of 600 KHz
and PL of either
88.5 or 141.3) will
continue to serve as
a backup.
Many thanks to the
leaders of the TARC
for the use of the
Link!
Go-Kit
Suggestions
As I discussed
last week, ham
radio activities
are winding
down, and even
though holiday
activities are
ramping up, we
can still find
ourselves with
some extra
downtime to
devote to our
wonderful hobby.
One of the
things I
mentioned was to
work on your
go-kit. Well, I
have a couple of
suggestions for
items to include
in your kit.
First is a copy
of your go-kit
list. Why would
you want to
include a copy
of the list in
the kit itself?
If you go on an
extended
activation, when
it is time to
return home, you
will probably
have to collect
all the items
that you removed
from the kit
during the
activation. If
you have a copy
of the list, you
can make sure
that you don't
leave anything
behind that you
would have to
replace once you
got home and
inventoried your
kit.
With that in
mind, consider
adding some
items for
giveaway in your
kit. The more
volunteers that
show up for an
activation, the
more likely that
someone is going
to show up
without a
flashlight, or
their flashlight
is broke. If you
have a cheap one
in your kit for
giveaway, you
can give it to
them, and hang
on to your good
flashlight.
Sometimes you
can find
flashlights that
cost only a buck
or two that will
be good enough
to get someone
through an
activation, and
sometimes they
will come in a
package of 2 or
3 for just a few
bucks. While
you're at it,
EXTRA EXTRA
batteries would
also be a good
addition to your
kit. (And no,
that is not a
typo!) I sure
that as you look
over your kit,
you can think of
other items
that, if you
have the money,
would be good to
have extras of,
just for
giveaway.
Route 66 Marathon,
17 - 18 NOV 12
The TRO will provide
communications for
this event on both
Saturday and Sunday.
Volunteers can sign
up to work either
day, or both days.
The 5K and Fun Run
will be run on
Saturday November
17, 2012, and both
will start and
finish at Veteran's
Park at 19th and
Boulder. These runs
are primarily for
practice for those
runners not sure
they want to do a
full marathon, or
they
desire extra
training before the
main event.
The Marathon, Half
Marathon and
Marathon Relay will
be run
on Sunday November
18, 2012. All
Sunday races start
at 7th and Main and
finish at Veteran's
Park.
For more information
about the event
itself, check their
website:
http://route66marathon.com/.
Marathon officials
are expecting a
sellout, so the need
will be great. This
will also be an
excellent
opportunity to
represent amateur
rado to the public.

Request For Feedback
For the Bulletin to continue to be the useful tool I intend it to be, I need your feedback. I need to know of any items that I should add, remove or change. I will consider all suggestions.
Plus any comments about the quality or the handling of the Bulletin will be appreciated.
Please send any comments, corrections, additions, etc., to kc5zqm@cox.net. DO NOT send them as a reply to the WA5LVT Yahoogroup, unless you want the entire group to see them before I have a chance to review them.
