Downtime?
Route 66 Marathon, 17 - 18 NOV 12

Downtime?
Well, Tulsa area ham radio activities are thinning out, as they usually do this time of year.  We have a couple of hamfests left, the Route 66 marathon, and a round of holiday activities coming up before things start ramping up next year.  Of course, in our personal lives, we will probably start spending more time with family, friends, and maybe work in some church activities as well.  Does this mean we have nothing to do as hams?
You could work on your go-kit, either to get started putting one together or to improve the one you have.  But this probably won't take that much time.
I recently did a series of pieces on ham radio Internet resources.  If you haven't already, you can check those out.  You can look through past issues of this publication online to find those websites.
Do you need to upgrade your license?  Get a manual and read it a couple dozen times. Take the online practice tests available at www.qrz.com.  Then check the testing schedule here in the Bulletin to find an opportunity to get it done.
Interested in public service, especially emergency and disaster communications?  If you haven't, sign up for ARES at www.aresok.org.  If you have signed up, have you completed the recommended ICS courses?  Have you read the State Plan?  Or the ARRL Public Service and Emergency Communications Manuals?
Interested in storm spotting or weather?  Why wait for the spotter training to get started learning about severe weather?  Many training resources are available online.

Route 66 Marathon, 17 - 18 NOV 12
The TRO will provide communications for this event on both Saturday and Sunday.  Volunteers can sign up to work either day, or both days.
The 5K and Fun Run will be run on Saturday November 17, 2012, and both will start and finish at Veteran's Park at 19th and Boulder.  These runs are primarily for practice for those runners not sure they want to do a full marathon, or they desire extra training before the main event.
The Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay will be run on Sunday November 18, 2012.  All Sunday races start at 7th and Main and finish at Veteran's Park.
For more information about the event itself, check their website: http://route66marathon.com/.
Marathon officials are expecting a sellout, so the need will be great.  This will also be an excellent opportunity to represent amateur radio to the public.

Request For Feedback

For the Bulletin to continue to be the useful tool I intend it to be, I need your feedback.  I need to know of any items that I should add, remove or change.  I will consider all suggestions.

Plus any comments about the quality or the handling of the Bulletin will be appreciated.

Please send any comments, corrections, additions, etc., to kc5zqm@cox.net.  DO NOT send them as a reply to the WA5LVT Yahoogroup, unless you want the entire group to see them before I have a chance to review them.
