Storm Spotter Webinar Invitation from NWS Norman Tuesday, 02 OCT 12
Stan Callahan, KE5HPB, forwarded a message from the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps (OKMRC), that the NWS office in Norman will host a virtual storm spotter training webinar from 1830 to 2030 (6:30 to 8:30 PM), on Tuesday, 02 OCT. I could not find a link to sign up, but if you are interested, you can keep an eye on the OU Norman NWS website at:
You can access the training material (which will be very similar to what's presented on the webinars) on the NWS YouTube channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/usweathergov#g/c/E428D98ED9A614C9 in case you are not able to make it. Feel free to share this link.
Simulated Emergency Test, Saturday 06 OCT 12 UPDATE
ARES Oklahoma is working on plans for the annual Simulated Emergency Test coming up on Saturday 06 OCT 12. Details will be posted through the ARESOK Yahoogroup. If you aren't yet a member of ARES Oklahoma, you can sign up to volunteer, and to receive email notices from the Yahoogroup at http://www.aresok.org/. I will add details to the Bulletin as they become available.
UPDATE - a scenario and an action plan have been released for the SET. The scenario is based on a damaging straight-line wind event that has caused power and communications outages. What will work best is VHF/UHF simplex and NVIS on HF, with limited use of repeaters and internet. For more details, check the action plan at:
Route 66 Marathon, 17 - 18 NOV 12
The TRO will provide communications for this event on both Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers can sign up to work either day, or both days.
The 5K and Fun Run will be run on Saturday November 17, 2012, and both will start and finish at Veteran's Park at 19th and Boulder. These runs are primarily for practice for those runners not sure they want to do a full marathon, or they desire extra training before the main event.
The Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay will be run on Sunday November 18, 2012. All Sunday races start at 7th and Main and finish at Veteran's Park.
For more information about the event itself, check their website: http://route66marathon.com/.
Keetonville Remote Receiver Link Completed
Last Tuesday evening, 18 SEP, Steve Miller, AA5V, Merlin Griffin, WB5OSM, and Merlin's grandson Kevyn, installed new UHF receivers at the 146.88 CityPlex repeater site, including one to complete the link to the new remote receiver at Keetonville. Thanks not only go to these men, but also to Bob Buford, W5RAB for obtaining and maintaining this site, and to Ed Compos, K5CRQ for checking the programming on the UHF receivers. Both the Keetionville and Skiatook receivers require an 88.5 PL, while the local receiver at CityPlex continues to use 141.3. Check them out to see which one works best for you.

Request For Feedback

For the Bulletin to continue to be the useful tool I intend it to be, I need your feedback. I need to know of any items that I should add, remove or change. I will consider all suggestions.

Plus any comments about the quality or the handling of the Bulletin will be appreciated.

Please send any comments, corrections, additions, etc., to kc5zqm@cox.net. DO NOT send them as a reply to the WA5LVT Yahoogroup, unless you want the entire group to see them before I have a chance to review them.
