Internet Resources Continued
The value of the Internet is that it is not just a resource, but a resource of resources.
Some hams see it as a competitor for new users. But the Internet is one of the greatest resources that hams can tap into. The problem is finding the Internet resources that help you the most because so many are out there.
Last week I highlighted online resources for ARES Oklahoma. This week, I'll narrow my focus a little more by looking at Tulsa area resources.
Because I produce the Bulletin on behalf of the Tulsa Repeater Organization and use a club resource to distribute it, I'll cover them first. Of course, like most clubs today, they have a website: http://www.tulsahamradio.org/index.html. The club recently changed the hosting for the website to GoDaddy.com, so the website should perform better, even if its appearance hasn't changed. Speaking of appearance, we couldn't get the models from the GoDaddy.com commercials to appear on the website, much to the dismay of the unattached males in the club. I'll not mention how the attached males feel about this, to save them some grief, and possibly, some pain as well.
The TRO has two other resources; the WA5LVT Yahoogroup, and a Facebook group.
If you receive this fine publication directly, you have already signed up to the WA5LVT Yahoogroup. But because Steve Miller, AA5V posts these Bulletins on the website, I'll include the web address for those who wish to sign up: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WA5LVT/. Also, if you know someone who is not signed up, and they would be interested in receiving information about ham radio events and activities in the Tulsa area on a regular basis, please forward this Bulletin, or the Yahoogroup link to them.
Are you on Facebook, and a TRO member? Or al least interested in keeping up with the TRO? Sign up for their FB group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/189314365941/.
Of course, I cannot forget the Tulsa Amateur Radio Club. They played a role in my becoming a ham. Their website is http://www.w5ias.com/. The TARC also has a Facebook group at;
https://www.facebook.com/groups/293272445399/.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/293272445399/.
I do visit the Broken Arrow Amateur Radio Club from time to time, because they have some interesting programs. Their website is http://www.w5bbs.us/, and their FB page is at: https://www.facebook.com/W5BBS.
Even though I haven't tuned into their net is years, I still like to mention the American Airlines Amateur Radio Club: http://k5jme-aaarc.clubspaces.com/default_css.aspx. This club does focuse on the social aspects of ham radio, so they have a rather laid back attitude. But don't take that to mean that they are not good operators or lacking in technical knowledge!
No coverage of Tulsa area online resources would be complete without ARES. If you live, shop, work, attend school or church in Tulsa County and you are an ARES member, in addition to the ARESOK Yahoogroup I mentioned last week, you should also join the Tulsa County ARES Yahoogroup: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TCARES/. If you are also on FB, look into joining their FB group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/340786045950016/.
Hot Enough Fer Ya?
You can always count on it getting hot in Oklahoma in the summer. Even when we don't get into the triple digits, the humidity can still make things miserable. The typical health advice is to stay cool and stay hydrated. Remember that the heat and humidity can affect your radios as well. We have already seen where the heat has affected at least one repeater. Keep in mind how the weather can affect your equipment, and when things cool down, you might benefit from giving your equipment a good inspection, especially the connectors. I also recommend keeping your equipment clean and dust free, because dust and dirt can interfere with cooling fans and heat sinks, and hold in the heat longer.

Request For Feedback
For the Bulletin to continue to be the useful tool I intend it to be, I need your feedback. I need to know of any items that I should add, remove or change. I will consider all suggestions.
Plus any comments about the quality or the handling of the Bulletin will be appreciated.
Please send any comments, corrections, additions, etc., to kc5zqm@cox.net. DO NOT send them as a reply to the WA5LVT Yahoogroup, unless you want the entire group to see them before I have a chance to review them.
