Maple Ridge 2012 Update
TRO is once again providing communications for the Maple Ridge Memorial Day Run, on Monday, May 28, and we have almost enough people to cover all the assignments.
The one assignment I am most concerned about is the Shadow. This person follows, like a shadow, the Race Director and keeps him or her informed of developments on the course. Without the Shadow, we have no communication with the race organization, or we must use a different means of communication to keep them informed. If we don't, we are not truly serving their needs, and we are just playing radio.
This event is one of the shortest and most fun events on the public service calendar. It takes place within the scenic and historic Maple Ridge Neighborhood between Peoria Avenue, Riverside Drive, 21st and 31st Streets. A map of the route showing the assignments is available at:
To volunteer, contact Tom Stroud at KD5OPH@tulsahamradio.org, or call 918-695-3735, sign up at the Facebook event page:https://www.facebook.com/events/237833722978378/, or just show up ready to operate!
Tour de Cure 2012
The TRO will once again provide communications support for the Tour de Cure, a fund-raising ride for the American Diabetes Association. The event will be Saturday, June 2, 2012, and run from 0600 (6 AM) to 1600 (4 PM).
Assignments wil include seven (7) rest stops, a couple of safety checkpoints, and as many SAG's as possible. Gas cards will be available for SAG's. Priority assignments will be the SAG's.
Routes will range from 10 to 75 miles. The map for the 75 mile route is here: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/66352892. Links to maps for all the rides are on the event Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/274220555977254/.

Tulsa Tough 2012 Volunteer Training Update
Last week I posted a message from Jim Beach, KE5URF:
Attention Hams and Sag Volunteers for the Saint Francis Tulsa Tough Granfondo!
Radio Amateurs, SAG drivers, and other potential bicycle mechanics, Saint Francis Tulsa Tough is offering you a class on basic roadside bicycle repairs next week. The class will cover the basic repairs you're likely to encounter along the road such as flats, minor drive train and brake adjustments, loose connections, etc.

The events listed in that message are over. The one scheduled for Thursday the 24th was cancelled due to a lack of expressed interest and is redirected to Thursday, June 7, 7:00 p.m. at Lee's Bicycles, 420 E 2nd Street, Tulsa.
If you know anyone who might like to be part of the biggest bicycling festival in Oklahoma and get solid radio practice in a controlled mobile net operation, forward this to them and bring them along!
All who attend a class, please plan to volunteer at least one day at the event June 9 and/or June 10. We'll have volunteer signup forms at the classes if your friend hasn't already signed up.
See you there!
