Tour de Tulsa 2012 Recap
We had a good turnout of volunteers, including a couple of last minute additions, for this event. Overall, things went smooth, with very few riders needing to be SAGged. I worked two assignments, the split between the century routes, and the rest stop at the Sapulpa VFW.
At the VFW, I got to meet Henry Iba! Not the famous OSU basketball coach, but a large dog in training to be a service animal for a disabled person.
I am also left with a mystery. Why wouldn't my mobile radio hear the TARC UHF link system, but handhelds could hear it full scale inside the car?
Tour de Cure 2012 Changes
Debbie Gladd Foley with the Tour de Cure came by the last TRO meeting. She brought by a few maps of the new route for this year's rides. The map for the 75 mile route is here:
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/66352892. Links to maps for all the rides is on the event Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/274220555977254/.
Debbie also mentioned a Logistics meeting for all volunteers, 6 PM, Monday, May 14th at the Warren Tower conference room. To volunteer, contact Tom Stroud at KD5OPH@tulsahamradio.org, or call 918-695-3735, or sign up on Facebook.
Meet the Boss & TV Star
Actually, many of you have already met him - Ben Joplin, WB5VST. I call him the Boss and TV star because he is the Zone 5 EC, and he was on TV briefly back during the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
Ben is now in print big time. He is featured in an article in the current issue of Oklahoma Living magazine, published by the Oklahoma Electrical Co-operatives.
You can see it at this link:
Once the page loads, click Content at top left of screen, then view Thumbnails of all pages, then select page 30.
Thanks Cindy Downes, K5CED for writing the article and Ben, WB5VST for all you do for amateur radio!
