RCWA Burger Burn
The Rogers County Wireless Association has a club picnic twice a year, at Shelter #2 by the scenic Claremore Lake. The first one for 2012 is May 5. Get there early to enjoy some tasty burgers and franks! For more info, check their website: http://www.rcwa.org/
Digital Emergency Communications Exercise
An all RF – DIGITAL emergency communications exercise is coming up May 5, 2012. This project is a joint interoperability exercise involving the ARRL Sections for both the West Gulf and Delta Divisions.
ARES-OK is looking for a few stations to send and receive a couple messages via Winlink 2000 during the emergency communications exercise. First step in the project for Oklahoma is that ARES-OK needs to gather some info from the amateurs in OKLAHOMA (from both ARES-OK and non-ARES registered Radio Amateurs). What we need to know is who the current Winlink 2000 (WL2K) users are, and their capabilities. If you are a WL2K user then please respond to n7xyo@arrl.net, and he has a short questionaire for you to fill out concerning your WL2K capabilities.

Modell Phipps Mode
If you have lived in the Tulsa area for a while, you might remember Modell Phipps. He was a character that often appeared on radio station KRMG, and he was always busy, busy, busy!
We're not quite into Modell Phipps Mode, but the time is coming. We have 4 opportunities for public service comms and Field Day coming up in May and June. Now is the time to check or begin assembling you go-kits, get up to speed on your ICS, emcomm and First Aid/CPR training.
And if the severe weather events of the past few days are any indicator of what the rest of storm season will be like, we might find ourselves in Modell Phipps Mode before we expect it!
