Time To Move?
The move of 146.880 has been postponed by the City Plex management.  Let's hope this doesn't interfere with comms for the Marathon.  When we do get word that City Plex is ready, we might need to move fast on this one to get it done.  Stay tuned and stay ready.

A-hunting We Will Go?
The foxhunt planned for 29 OCT didn't happen because the fox was indisposed.  We might discuss plans for future foxhunts at this month's meeting on the 22nd.

Williams Route 66 Marathon
At last report, Tom had only 7 volunteers lined up.  That is less than half of what is needed.  Organizers epect over 16000 runners/walkers to show up.  That's a lot of folks to keep track of!

On 19 NOV they will have a training event, one day before the Full Marathon on 20 NOV.  Volunteers will need to not only contact Tom Stroud, KD5OPH, but also register on the Marathon website AFTER receiving a passcode from Tom.

EAS National Test
Taken from FCC BULLETIN: DA 11-1857, November 3, 2011 (courtesy of Mark Conklin, N7XYO, Oklahoma Section Emergency Cooridinator):

"On November 9, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time1 (EST), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct the first-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS).  The purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a way to alert the public of national emergencies. ...

"After a careful review of the technical elements of the test, FEMA and the FCC have concluded that a thirty-second test will allow the agencies to effectively assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a way to alert the public of national emergencies with limited disruption to the public."

I do not know of any planned ham radio activities in connection with this event, but I do wish to offer a comment on why hams should be interested.  The current protocol for ARES activations is that no one should self-deploy, but to wait for wait for notification from ARES leaders.  Members of RRT's (Rapid Response Teams) will probably be called first, at the request of their served agencies.  However, an EAS message can serve as notification of an event that might require an ARES activation, so ARES members can go ahead and check their emergency supplies, equipment and plans.  We should all be interested in how well the EAS works, because it could give us a few extra moments of preparation & response time.
