Foxhunting?
At the August TRO meeting, Joe Gorkos, N5TEX, gave a quick discussion of Foxhunting, and proposed having a foxhunt early in October.  The first Saturday was out, because of the SET, and the Route 66 Quarter Marathon is two weeks later, so we will probably have the hunt on 08 OCT 11.
If the foxhunt does happen, here are the general rules, to the best of my memory: 1) The fox has to hide within Tulsa County in a PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE location;  2) The fox will transmit for about a minute once every 5 minutes;  3) The fox can give clues to his or her location, but, while the FCC rules prohibit knowingly transmitting falsehoods, clues could be deceptive in other ways, or vague or obscure;  4) The fox will begin the hunt with the first transmission at 0900;  5) The first foxhunter who finds the fox without the use of Doppler equipment wins;  6) If no one finds the fox within 2 - 3 hours, the fox can suspend the hunt for a month; the hunt will resume with the fox at the same location, 0900 of the 2nd Saturday of the following month.
 
Williams Route 66 Marathon
The Williams Route 66 Marathon organization has three events coming up that the TRO is organizing communications for.  The first is the Quarter Marathon on 15 OCT.  Then on 19 NOV they will have a training event, one day before the Full Marathon on 20 NOV.
The Quarter Marathon covers a distance of 6.555 miles.  For comparison, a 10K is 6.2 miles.  The Maple Ridge Run that the TRO has supported for years, is a 5K at 3.1 miles.  According to the Quarter Marathon website, the days events do include a 5K and a 1 mile fun run.  Runners can opt for a double award by running both the 5K and the Quarter Marathon.
Volunteers will need to not only contact Tom Stroud, KD5OPH, but also register on the Marathon website AFTER receiving a passcode from Tom.

Route 66 Quarter Marathon, 15 OCT 11
